چکیده

In this work we extend the crossover (CR) modification of the statistical-associating-fluid-theory (SAFT) equation of state (EOS), recently developed and applied for non-associating systems [Ind. Eng. Chem. Res. 38 (1999) 4993] to associating fluids. Unlike the previous crossover EOS that was based on the parametric linear model for the universal crossover function Y, the new CR SAFT EOS is based on Fisher’s recent parametric sine model. This model can be extended into the metastable region and gives analytically connected van der Waals loops in the two-phase region. We show that for associating fluids the new CR SAFT EOS not only yields a better description of the PVT and VLE properties of fluids in the critical region, but also improves the representation of the entire thermodynamic surface. A comparison is made with experimental data for pure normal methanol, ethanol, propanol, butanol, pentanol, and hexanol in the oneand two-phase regions. The CR SAFT EOS reproduces the saturated pressure and liquid density data with an average absolute deviation (AAD) of about 1%. In the one-phase region, the CR SAFT equation represents the experimental values of pressure with an AAD less than 1% in the critical and supercritical region and the liquid densities with an AAD of about 2%. © 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. In this paper, asymptotic stability for neutral delay–differential systems with mixed multiple time-varying delay arguments is investigated. Based on the Lyapunov method, two new stability criteria in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) are presented to guarantee the stability for the systems. The LMIs can be easily solved by various convex optimization algorithms. Three numerical exampl...

An understanding of the relationship between chemical structure and lubricant performance is highly desirable from both a fundamental and a practical perspective, such knowledge being vital to improve the performance of mineral oils and to guide the design of future synthetic lubricants. The rheological properties of alkanes of intermediate molecular size (C20–C40) are of particular interest as...

The extended corresponding states principle has been applied on the prediction of the surface tension of pure molten alkali halides. The model uses liquid density and vapour pressure data of the salts of interest and of the reference salt, chosen to be NaCl, as the input for the calculation of temperature-dependent equivalent substance reducing ratios (ESRR). The model here described was alread...

Liquid–solid phase equilibrium measurements were carried out at various pressures and temperatures below the onset of crystallization in a mixture made up of a distribution of paraffins with composition exponentially decreasing from n-C6 to n-C36. Liquid and solid phases in partially frozen mixtures were separated by isobaric and isothermal filtration and analyzed by gas chromatography. Waxy so...

A methodology for multi-level conceptual design and analysis of crystallization-based separation processes involving electrolyte systems is presented. The methodology consists of three main parts: thermodynamic part (level 1), flowsheet design/analysis part (level 2) and flowsheet validation (simulation) part (level 3). In this paper, the integration of the thermodynamic and design/analysis par...
